Broken hearts hurt but they make us strong <3 - Kimya Dawson

First off, what is clinical depression? As described by Wikipedia: "Major depressive disorder (MDD), also known as clinical depression, is a mental disorder characterized by at least two weeks of pervasive low mood, low self-esteem, and loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities." This can cause a lot of different issues in life, so here are some tips and resources!
An in depth look into depression and symptoms

A list of 85 books pertaining to depression, forgive me if some of them suck, I haven't read them all!

A thing I have learned is self care with depression can be hard, so any amount of change is something to be proud of! Have you gotten out of bed today? I'm proud of you! Taken a shower or brushed your teeth? I'm proud of that too! Even making it through the day can be hard, so progress is progress no matter how small! You aren't weak for struggling, truely, everyone has bad days, your feelings just make you human!

Negative self-worth and other tips

As described in first paragraph, depression and really any kind of sadness can cause low self esteem, here are some things that could help!

Repeating daily affirmations: If we can get in our own head too much by repeating negative stuff, then we can do the same thing by repeating positive stuff! Saying things like "I am capable" or "I am worthy of love" after a negative thought can jumpstart our memories of times we were happy or loved!

Reducing internet usage: Even though doomscrolling through our phones might seem like fun or time killing, social media can really create a lot of problems! Some social media feeds are designed to push any kind of popular content, including ones filled with ragebait and misinformation. Plus, with influencers promoting products and insecurites these things can really suck you in! It's important to remember that almost everything online is edited or fake, not everyone has it all together all the time!

Surrounding yourself with positivity: The things around us can influence our worldview and ourselves, including friends and family. Having friends and relatives who lift you up and offer support is important! Think about it, are they really friendly if they're mean and tear you down? Are they really familial if they don't act like it? It's best to stop talking to these kinds of people, or at least minimize the amount of time you spend together for your sanity..

Music: Music can of course help remind you that you aren't alone by listening to music you relate to! However, if you were to listen to sad music all the time you'd surely feel the effect! If you're not sure where to start with music, or you only listen to sad bands, then I recommend the genre happy hardcore! What's more uplifting than a genre with "happy" in it?! Heres a playlist to get you started. Things like exercise, food, and sleep all affect your mood aswell! So it's important to ensure good sleep/movement/eating habits in addition to the things I listed here! You could even exercise by raving to the playlist in your own room! :D

Hygiene

Face it, when you or a loved one feels as though everything is hopeless and even feels like they don't deserve basic care.... Everything and every task including hygiene will feel daunting! So here are some tips that have helped me, if you don't feel like showering, you could still do so, sitting under running water will still wash away grime and sitting down can prevent exhaustion. If you still don't feel like showering you could use wet wipes to clean your skin and then lotion, oils, or perfume to smell good. I personally find brushing my teeth to be hard so using toothpastes with more "fun" and less strong flavors (like kids toothpaste) works wonders. You could also just use mouthwash if you really don't feel like brushing your teeth. You could also do most of this from the comfort of your room or bed, whatever feels safe to you. <3
